Pulse Check

Hey there, Horror Hounds!

Popping up like a not-dead-yet horror villain to let you know the 3-D conversion is more than halfway done, and it's looking beautiful:

OK, maybe "beautiful" isn't the right word.

Ahem!

Frequent NIGHTMARE THEATER contributor Shawn Gabborin is the superstar working tirelessly to make this happen for us, and we couldn't be more grateful.

Once the conversion is complete, we'll be able to reach out to printers and get a better idea of the adjusted timeline.

We also took this time to give you a little extra value by expanding our interstitials (the introductory bits between segments, starring our horror hosts). We wanted to go all-out for our final volume, and Mick Beyers and Alex Zief have knocked these out of the park, really leaning in to the 3-D aspect:

This is our way of saying thanks for your patience as we tackle the 3-D process for the first time.

As always, we appreciate the support!

Progress Report (The Call is Coming From Inside the House!)
10 months ago – Tue, Feb 13, 2024 at 06:32:59 PM

(Whispers): Hey there, Horror Hounds!

I'm whispering because there's a homicidal maniac in the house, and I don't want to give away my position. But I had to call and let you know that everything is moving along and the book looks FANTASTIC.

We are a little behind the timeline we posted on the campaign. As 3-D first-timers, the conversion process is taking a little longer than we anticipated, but we think it's worth getting it just right. As soon as we have this off to the printer, we'll let you know.

As for digital rewards: the estimated digital delivery date listed on the rewards tab is the correct one (July 2024, not January!), but even though we're a little behind schedule, we should be able to beat that. Stay tuned!

OK, I think I hear footsteps in the hall. Gotta run. Back soon with more news... if I survive!

Quick Reminder...

Hello Horror Hounds -

I don't mean to scare you (or do I...?), but if you received a notification from Kickstarter that you need to update your payment information, pretty please do so soon. You only have about three days left to correct it or your Kickstarter rewards disappear FOREVER.

(OK, maybe I *am* trying to scare you.)

But we do have quite a few that need cleaning up, and we want all of you to get your rewards. We may be biased, but this book is too awesome to let slip away.

Speaking of, David and I are hard at work sequencing the stories, making sure everything flows seamlessly from one scare to the next.

Stay tuned for more news on that front!

Meanwhile, contributor Christopher Brimmage ("Branded") is back on Kickstarter with the latest in his long-running series MANDRILL, P.I.:

MANDRILL P.I. Issue #6 is the 24-page sixth chapter in the story of a hardboiled, hard-drinking private detective in a cartoon city who must solve the murder of its foremost celebrity. As he investigates the crime, he learns of a deadly conspiracy that festers behind the scenes and threatens to engulf the entire town—a conspiracy filled with MAD SCIENCE and insanity that would only be possible in a cartoon world!

The book is a little bit Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, a little bit Hellboy...and a whole lot of fun. Plus, it's drawn by NIGHTMARE THEATER volume 1 contributor Carlos Trigo ("Ahead of Joaquin"). This is the final issue of the first arc, and there are plenty of ways to catch up if you missed out on the campaigns for the other issues (or prose novels!).

So if that makes you want to investigate further...

And finally, friend of the theater Michael Katz has just three days left on METAL HEAD #2:

This NSFW sci-fi is written by Michael with Keith Champagne (DAYBREAK! and more) and illustrated by up-and-coming artist Bruno Abdias (DC Comics' upcoming CYBORG, plus MAGNUS, YOUNGBLOOD, THE OWL GIRL, LA SOMBRA vs FLAME GIRL, and more).

Here's the pitch: "Alien invaders have enslaved Australia, left to their devices by the rest of the world. Humans are trapped in exoskeletons, forced to work as mindless slaves for their alien overlords.

One man is able to throw off his brainwashing. He is beset with flashbacks of memories from other alien slaves who had been forced to wear the same exoskeleton. This gives him the ability to use his exo suit to fight back, and launch a counterattack against the invaders.

With the help of a friendly alien and a civilian human, can our hero achieve freedom? Can he trust anyone in this world of fifth columnists and government sanctioned race traitors?"

Featuring 49 pages of story plus back-up material, this adults-only book gives you a lot of bang for your buck. So if you want to check out the campaign and some of their great variant covers...

Thank You! + Next Steps (IMPORTANT)
about 1 year ago – Thu, Nov 30, 2023 at 06:54:54 PM

Hello gals and ghouls,

A fews hours ago, our delightfully dreadful campaign met its grisly fate!

We did hit our third stretch goal, which means that we'll be adding the Richard Fairgray pinup to the book. (And if you ask verrrrrry nicely, we'll send you the NSFW version--but don't say we didn't warn you!)

On behalf of our monster of a lineup: THANK YOU!

NIGHTMARE THEATER is a labor of love, and we can't wait to get the final volume into your hands.

What happens now (IMPORTANT):

Kickstarter has already charged the card you have on file.

If you got a message from Kickstarter asking you to update your payment information, pretty please do it fast! You only have one week to correct it, and we want you to get your rewards.

Other than that, your work here is done.

We expect to more-or-less adhere to the timeline posted on the campaign, but if anything changes, we'll let you know ASAP. In fact, we promise to keep you updated every step of the way... without terrorizing you with too many posts.

Deal? Deal.

COMING ATTRACTIONS

Before we go, here are a couple of other books we think should be on your radar...

(Punchline 1-3) Debut of "Violanté The Undead"

Friend of the Theater Ted Sikora, mastermind behind the Hero Tomorrow line of comics, is back on Kickstarter with issue 3 of his series Punchline and the Vaude-Villains. This five issue series set in Cleveland goes deep into the psyche of Drayton Hayes/Punchline as he's challenged by the main superhero in their universe, Apama, and a brand new nemesis from Mexico — Violanté the Undead!

No knowledge of previous stories is required to enjoy this series, but there are rewards that bundle the entire catalog of their fantastic shared universe. Be sure to check out the stellar variant covers (one is posted above) and the long list of pull quotes from some big-name comics veterans and journalists. I can personally attest that all of Ted's books are top-notch, but don't take it from me... take it from former Marvel EIC Jim Shooter, who says reading a Hero Tomorrow book is "like finding water in the desert."

And finally...

Our friend Sam Noir will soon be launching a hardcover collection featuring the best of Cauldron magazine. Like the prelaunch says, "Arthouse meets Grindhouse. Edgy Contemporary Supernatural Tales for Mature Readers. A Deluxe High Quality Archival Hardcover."

I thoroughly enjoyed the issue of Cauldron that I backed, and Sam's projects are always well done. If you're a fan of horror anthologies (and something tells us you are), you'll want to see what they're brewing over at Cauldron.

That's all for now. Thanks again for the support... and don't forget to fix those credit cards!
